The wait is over.............

posted by Shaun on Tue 18 of Sep, 2007 [09:48 UTC]
It's been 8 long years since Valve announced it would be creating a sequel to Team Fortress - The Class-Based? Half Life Multiplayer Mod.

Well the wait is almost over - At 8AM GMT today, the official Beta of Team Fortress 2 was released. Unfortunately, if you want to play, you'll have to fork out $45 for the "Orange Box"; a Game package which includes Half Life 2, HL2 Ep1, HL2 Ep2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. Those of you who already own Half Life 2 and/or Ep1 will be pretty miffed - and rightly so, at having to pay for these two games again. Especially when Valve should have paid us to play the waste of time that was Ep1. And rather than give us existing customers money off this or future packages as compensation, they have instead said that we can give away our new copies of HL2 and Ep1 to a friend.

Wow - Thanks for your generosity with OUR MONEY valve!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway - Back to Team Fortress 2. It looks pretty good, and runs pretty well on my PC at work. The menu does take 4 1/2 months to appear, as it's one of those 3D menus that they used in HL2 - Pretty pointless for an online game, but this is a beta, and I'm sure they'll get rid of it for the final release.

So should you buy it? Well that's up to you - The game itself looks very good, and the two minutes I got to play it before work this morning were pretty impressive. The orange box also includes Portal, which I think could be one of the best games this year. But Valve seem to be more interested in screwing existing customers out of their money at the moment, and I'm sure that if you wait a few months you'll be able to pick up TF2 and Portal for less than $10 each.

If however, you never got around to playing HL2, then this could be a great bargain - $45 will get you around 40 hours of single player action, and two very interesting multiplayer games.

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Rant

posted by Shaun on Sun 11 of Jun, 2006 [18:05 UTC]
After not much time at all, I've finished Episode One - Which is realy disappointing. I loved HL2, and was expecting a game of the same class - It's not even close.

I'd estimate that you could probably complete the game in three hours - Which for $20 is a HUGE waste of money. $20 will buy you Day Of Defeat Source, which will give you weeks of continuous gameplay before you'd get tired of it.

Valve have kindly given anyone who completes Episode One a sneak peak of Episode Two – which looks great. I just hope they'll give it away as compensation to anyone who purchased Episode One.

You can download the Episode Two Preview HERE

I think I'll go play some Quake 4 - That game was worth every penny.

Half-Life 2 Episode 1 Pre-Order

posted by Shaun on Sat 06 of May, 2006 [11:59 UTC]
Valve are now taking Pre Orders for Half Life 2: Episode 1 - The follow up to last year's brilliant FPS.

Consciousness returns. Gordon and Alyx discover they've somehow escaped both the reactor explosion and the G-Man's malevolent grasp. Before they can ponder their miraculous survival, the crippled Citadel lurches back to life just long enough to initiate a self-destruct sequence. With Alyx at his side, Gordon must flee a city in chaos before the Citadel's final detonation turns City 17 into a toxic, mutant-infested crater.

You can see more details on Episode One HERE

You can place your Pre Order through Steam

Welcome to the all-new 3DXL.com!

The new site runs on tikiwiki - and Open source CMS which has a lot of pretty cool features.

We're not able to bring the posts from our old forums over to our new ones - If you need to access any of your old posts, you'll find a link to the old forums in the Community menu.

We're also unable to bring the user accounts over from the old forums, so you'll need to register a new one - There should be a register button over on the right hand side of the screen.

I hope you like the new site as much as I do.
